Contemporary Neapolitan
Pizza & Spritz in Tulum

Our dough and time

At Checkpoint Ciao we believe that time is also an ingredient. That’s why we work our high‑hydration dough with patience and judgement. Slow controlled fermentation results in a crust that is light, airy and easy to digest.

The oven and the ingredients

We bake our pizzas in a wood‑fired oven, finishing them with genuine Italian ingredients and local seasonal produce. Additionally, our curated bar offers Spritz, Negronis, Italian wines, and natural wines to complete the experience. Beyond the flavors, the space, curated music, and service seamlessly blend Mediterranean spirit with the relaxed charm of Tulum. Ultimately, it’s the essential spot to add to your list when visiting the Riviera Maya.

A place with its own rhythm

Checkpoint Ciao brings locals and travellers together over wood‑fired pizza, good drinks and curated music. The atmosphere is vibrant yet controlled; the bar, kitchen, design and hospitality share the same point of view: Italian in spirit, warm in hospitality and effortlessly assured. More than a casual meal, it’s an experience you’ll want to repeat. A round of Spritz, a shared table, another pizza and our Pistachio Tiramisu to finish become part of your story.

So this place has stuck with us as we returned from vacation. A few things you should know: 1. We ran a sourdough pizza business 2. We go to Italy 3-4 times a year and my parents live there … so with that being said…this is the best pizza we’ve had in years. We think about the pizza while we sit in our living room on the cold rainy nights reminiscing … we plan vacations around this pizza (as in when can we return asap)… we talk about this pizza to friends and family. Needless to say, this place is perfecto! Everything from drinks to dessert are chefs kiss!! Mi piaccono le pizze moltissimo!

We ended up coming to Checkpoint Ciao twice in one week, and that pretty much says it all. Mexican pizza can get a bad rap, but this place completely changed my mind. The menu is creative, the flavors are spot-on, and there’s genuinely something for everyone. Everything we ordered came out incredibly fast and tasted just as good as it looked. The space itself is super cute with great energy. The staff is friendly, attentive without hovering, and makes you feel taken care of from the moment you walk in. One of my favorite things was the mix of people—friends, families, couples—it’s clearly a spot locals and visitors both love, and that adds to the atmosphere in the best way. Great food, great vibes, great service, and very reasonably priced. We’ll absolutely be back next time we’re in Tulum.

The hype is real! Go here! Our meal was perfection and we still talk about the pistachio tiramisu dessert. The pizza is top notch and they’ve clearly mastered their craft. This meal was a highlight of our Tulum trip and not to be missed.

The BEST pizza in Tulum, hands down. I’m not usually a crust eater, but this sourdough crust is absolutely incredible. Recommend the Brooklyn pizza. Bianca, the floor manager, was serving all the tables in the restaurant by herself, and everything came out quickly and correctly. She’s super impressive and so sweet. Great atmosphere, good classic tunes, and cool art. Great bonus is that there’s A/C inside, so this is probably the most physically comfortable I’ve been dining in Tulum.

The entirety of Tulum beach is infested with restaurants that have banging music, endless clapping and sparklers with each shot, alongside average yet expensive food. If however, you actually like good food and have no need for sparklers with every drink come to Checkpoint. The sourdough is stunning, the starters divine and the wine list is exceptional with some very enjoyable Mexican wines. All reasonably priced, particularly for Tulum. Topped off with fantastic service what more can you ask for? Cannot recommend enough, plus it’s a really rather cute looking restaurant. 10/10.

So this is our most favorite restaurant in whole of Tulum. It is without any doubt the best Neapolitan Pizza in the area. Their sourdough pizzas are simply delicious. They also have a nice selection of drinks and cocktails. We loved their pistachio gelato as well. The ambience is great, very chilled. The waitstaff is friendly and very efficient. Overall had an excellent experience at this restaurant. An absolute must if you’re in Tulum.

Okay- so I know not many people want pizza in Mexico, but if you do- this is the place to go!! It was so so good. The dough was amazing, fluffy, crusty, chewy, the flavor outstanding. The antipasti’s were also excellent and so were the drinks. Service was great. We’ve had pizza at a few restaurants around town and this was by far the best!

The only place we went to twice while in Tulum. Hands down the best pizza I've had in at least 5 years and maybe longer. Blows all of CA out of the water, and that's saying a lot as I am a pizza conissour, devotee, and baker. Since it is a pizza place, the atmosphere is different but I put it at the level of heartwood or arca for expertise, service, preperation and taste. Easily. Might even be better than what we scored in Italy but I just can't remember. I wanted to lick the crumbs off the table after we used the crust and extra bread to soak up every drop from every plate and utensil. Also fantastic drinks, service, music, and staff. The chef is a pizza boss. Get some of the house lemoncello if you're lucky enough.
